The Youth Energy Summit (YES!) was launched in Brussels in 2022, beginning on the main stage of the Africa Energy Forum alongside industry heavyweights and 13 African Energy Ministers, playing a starring role in the wider 1,800-person event.
By the end of the summit, there were tales of entrepreneurs attracting vital investment, long sought-after connections made, and heroes met! There were appearances from, among many others, Joseph Nganga (Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet), Habiba Ali (Sosai Renewable Energies), Karen Breytenbach (ex IPP Office), Andy Herscowitz (US DFC), along with students, early career professionals, entrepreneurs and educators from across Africa.
This year, YES! continues to expand its audience with up to 2,000 attendees joining us in Nairobi alongside aef in June. Students at this year’s forum had the opportunity to attend sessions that explored their perceptions of the future, how they can reach their potential, how they can fill skills shortages in the energy sector, and what they’re looking for in terms of guidance from educators and professionals. Early career professionals will ultimately take Africa forward and YES! offers them a forum to build relationships with peers, to learn from global technology designers, and to be inspired by those shaping the future of energy in Africa.
YES! has a goal of reaching 100 million people across Africa over the next 10 years through its network-based approach to upskilling and industry progression. Beyond Privilege is our brand new, free-to-access digital platform designed specifically for the YES! network to connect with other students, entrepreneurs and young professionals, access year-round industry news, engage with regular courses and workshops, and discover job opportunities.
